What We’re Doing in Response to the News SCOTUS May Overturn Roe v Wade
We’re sad, and we’re angry, and we’re going to fight like hell.
For nearly 50 years, the SCOTUS ruling in Roe v Wade has protected the right of pregnant people to access abortion. But last night, a draft opinion leaked stating that the Supreme Court would overturn Roe and effectively end those protections.
For the last nine years with NGP VAN, and really my entire adult life, I’ve been an advocate for abortion rights, reproductive rights, and reproductive justice. I’m proud to be a part of a company that enables and empowers organizations on the front lines to drive more impact and to support access, equity, diversity & inclusion. And right now, it’s a critical time for our customers who advocate for these rights.
NGP VAN has always made a commitment to customers who support efforts to advance racial equity, LGBTQ+ equity, climate protection, and reproductive choice; and Bonterra has embraced that position and is adopting it in our company’s overall Acceptable Use Policy. It’s important to understand that we are unequivocal in our support for those organizations championing reproductive justice—and those who they represent.
Since the leak was announced overnight, we have seen a 600% spike in site traffic for our customers supporting reproductive rights such as Planned Parenthood, NARAL, Lilith Fund, Yellowhammer Fund, National Women’s Law Center, and others. Together, they have raised over $4 million in just the past 18 hours. But the road ahead of us is long, and the most important thing we can do is ensure unwavering support for these organizations and their work.
We didn’t get any sleep last night and you probably didn’t either but we want to stress how urgent this situation is. Midterm primaries are happening now—literally today. Check your voter registration right now, and make sure your family and friends are registered too.
